Assam Bukhail Tea
Pronounced "ah-sahm," this is a signature tea from the Assam region of India. This bold black tea is from the Bukhail tea estate which is nestled in a remote region on the south side of the Brahmaputra River. With an almost perfect growing climate the soil in this area is sandy and deep with a hot and steamy monsoon season that balances with a cool and dry winter season. These diverse seasons produce a slower growing bush which results in an outstanding tea.
This Assam Bukhial Tea is harvested in June. The tea grade for this tea is TGFOP which stands for Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe. Tea leaf grading is the grading process based on the condition and quality of the tea leaves themselves. “Tippy” means that it contains an abundance of tips, “Golden Flowery” means that it includes very young buds or tips that are typically golden in color and these are usually picked early in the season. The highest tea grades are referred to as "Orange Pekoe”.
Many tea aficionados consider Assam tea to be some of the best tea in the world. The color infusion of this tea is a golden copper and very bright.
Steep at 210° F for 3-5 minutes. You can certainly steep a bit longer for a stronger tea or a bit less for a milder tea.
Caffeine level is medium. 1 ounce makes approximately 12 cups of tea.
