The salt’s inner crystal lattice has a fairly high energy per unit of mass, which means that it will maintain just about any temperature you subject it to for a decent amount of time. The amount of surface space of the salt block touching your food is minimal due to the block’s lack of porosity. Unlike most gourmet sea salts, these large salt blocks impart a milder saltiness which provides a more nuanced flavor complexity to your food. The Himalayan Pink Salt Block is 8" x 12" x 2" thick and each weighs a hefty 15 lbs. This Himalayan Salt is harvested in mines from the Punjab Region of Pakistan. After evaluating several suppliers this is an exceptionally high quality salt block. There are so many ways to use salt blocks. You can serve cooler, moist foods like mozzarella cheese, sliced fruit like apples or pears and even sushi. Use your salt block to cook eggs, salmon, scallops, shrimp, steak and vegetables. You can think of your salt block like a salt griddle. These salt blocks can be used directly on a gas range, the grill, in the oven or on the stove top. To avoid the cracking of your salt block during cooking we recommend that you slowly heat the blocks. Most instructions say to clean the salt block by scraping rather than washing as washing removes too much salt.
For safety purposes I recommend buying two salt blocks so you can have one for cooking and one for serving. Because these blocks retain their heat so well, using the same block to present the cooked food to friends and family at the dinner table can be a bit risky.
