Everyone knows what a vanilla bean tastes like and smells like. Vanilla planifolia, the plant from which we derive many different types of vanilla including Indonesian, is known for its robust flavors and delicious depth. The orchid that gives us vanilla is difficult to grow, and even more difficult to pollinate, making vanilla a flavor we really have to work for as human beings.
